I can smell a hot atto headed my way ....

Been nailing these newer faster u320 drives on eBay again. The old ones I had that hit 230,000 on atto in raid hit 50,000 a piece. These new ones are hitting low 70,000's a pop. I have six of those now and a couple slower u320 36gb drives to give a total of eight. And now I have a 4channel raid controller to spread the I-O across. I can smell a 350,000 to 400,000 on ATTO coming up here guys..... I am waiting for one more drive to arrive. I may play some later today with seven of them and just get an idea of what I can cough up with this rig. This is a sickness that never ends I tell ya.

dissapointed in the early results. Barely cracked 300,000. I really thought it would hit a little higher. This is 7 drives running acpi. I may need to move it to the other 64bit slot tomorrow and take another shot

That's still insane (and beats your previous high score, eh?).

He was probably just tired and was too excited. He will no doubt have it sorted out today. ;)

Waiting for another drive that didn't get shipped on time. These are insanely fast on the top end but are hideous on the bottom end also. But the faster single drives are hitting around 70 to 73,000 on atto. This was also a mismatched set of four DIFFERANT not matched drives raided together which doersn't often cough up the best results. had still hoped to be closer to 350,000 though.... I know that sounds whiny but......

Could any of the speed decrease from expected results be due to the relatively poor performance of the MPX chipset on the motherboard? I have read lots about it not being the best partner in speed of the buses on the duallie AMD boards. Consequently, although you're not at the cap of the buses throughput, could it affect the "quality" of the of the throughput on the bus? I'm not really stating it clearly, but I'm guessing you know what I mean.

My msi always did better then my Asus on benchs and one of the 64bit slots shares an IRQ with the AGP which suxs ass of course. But this is with no tweaking at all. But cutting the latency of the video card and moving the raid controller I might get better results. My friggin gigabit fiber is giving me fits in a new fileserver right now and I haven't played much really. I cranked one ATTO with the new disks and quit. I really think I can hit this type of numbers when the other disk gets here on a five drive array and use the IBM's in raid-1 for the OS and the hitachi for user data and swap etc. It still has 120gb of ide on it to back the scsi raid-0 up to also.

The IBM's hit 65,000 on atto though and cost me a really silly amount to buy. Cheap I mean. I didn't expect them to do nearly as well as that really. They cost just over 50 bucks for 36gb u320 drives???

When I said that some of thse are really fast on the top end but not the bottom end also.... I meant as single drives. Its almost like they are getting whacked by the xp scsi bug but other drives on the same controller are not ?? The older 18gb Atlas 10k III's I have and the hitachi and IBM's alll do OK on the bottom of atto but the newer Atlas 10k IV's and Fuji MAP's just suck till they hit 64k then shoot to full speed. But on the start of atto the writes are like starting at 125 to 150 not 2800 to 3200 like the other drives so it kills the bottom end on the raid-0.

    Cheers

Well it seems as you are playing with enough variables that almost anything could happen as well as affect your benches. It will be interesting to see how it does with all matched drives when your last one arrives. Which controller are you using with this?
