system restarts?

since i bought this new pc about a week ago, the system has restarted twice within the week for no apparent reason. the pc is connected through a liebert AVR which eliminates the possibilities of brown-outs and power-related problems. so im thinking of the possibilty of heating problems.. my cpu temps are around 49~51. ive ran 3dmark 03 without problems. could it be because of something else? the restart occurs during minimal usage, e.g. surfing, mp3's, etc. any help is appreciated. thanks!

btw, my sys specs are:
XP 2500+ barton
msi kt4av
256MB apacer pc2700
forsa gf4ti4200
evercool hsf
liteon 52x32x52 cd-rw

Erratic restarts could be because of a faulty power supply.

Those temps are a bit on the warm side. I know I nervous if my LOAD temps go over 47C. Are you overclocking at all? What are your memory timings, these could do it too. Even though everything is new you should still check your memory with something like memtest86, which checks it independent of the rest of your system. The best way to see if it is heat related or some other cause is to install and run Motherboard Monitor and watch your temps while running a thermal stress test like Toast.

wat are avg. temps for a barton 2500+? idle and load?
but if its heating problems, then shouldnt 3dmark 03 would have crashed while running?

my system is not overclocked. everything is default..

Idle should be low 40's or less. Load should alway (at least in my book) be under 50. running 3dmark will not neccessarily cause it to crash from either heat or PSU voltage fluctuations. The little stress test I put in my other post will do it in a matter of 2 or 3 minutes in most cases. I would set the priority to "High and watch my CPU temp and vcore. I still don't know if you are overclocked and what your memry timing are. I am shooting in the dark trying to help because I do not have enough info.

i dont think its temperatures, i ran a t-bird at 52C idle for 3 years, without ever having a problem. it would hit 60C at max load in the summer. my current system idles at about 42 and hits 49 max, again no problems.

i put my money on a faulty, underpowered, or poorly built power supply.

WeLL, disconnect that AC stuff before your PSU and see what happens, maybe it took a nok sometime from power, and it's supply to your PSU is a problem.

Thorobreds and bartons do not operate at as high of temps as the old T'birds.

low 50's are ok too. Its when you start getting close to 60 that you should be worried really. i'd like to know how much power you are supplying to the system. because like versello said, restarts like that are generally signs of a faulty power supply, or the power supply is too weak to run the system on.

the psu im using is a cheap 400W-rated psu. i doubt it even goes close to 300W in actual output. ill go check the brand.. will update soon. thanks..
