Depends on the source DVD, if it's dual-layer it will take 2 standard 4.7gb dvdr discs to copy, otherwise a standard movie dvd of about 2-2.5hours (depending on the use of compression on the source) should fit fine on a single dvr.

It's not. It's actually quite quick and painless these days, but before we had apps like DVD2one and dvd shrink it used to take about 8 - 9 hours to copy a dvd movie. Now you can do it in about 45 minutes.

Depends on the source file. If its MPEG2 and you want to convert to DVD video, you can set the conversion to be the same size as the source file. Its possible to fit 7+ hrs of video and convert it to DVD Video.

I can fit 10 450MB episodes of Star Trek Enterprise on DVD to convert it to DVD video using Ulead DVD MovieFactory, the settings of 320x240, 1500Kbps and 224Kbps MPEG audio (the files I download are essentially the same quality levels), and it takes 2 hours to convert to DVD Video, then 20 minutes to burn to 2.4x DVD+R media.

Ive obtained "DVD Shrink" and "Copy to DVD", these programs do the job very quickly and work great.

much quicker than i thought judging from the websites.

Just looking for compatable DVD blanks now, Packard Bell ones work fine on my MSI writer but Sony ones throw up a fuss.

danball makes a good suggestion. Unless you're viewing this on a high res monitor/tv, his formatting (VCD level quality) is more than enough, and also allows for small file sizes. I use vcd from time to time, but mostly I use SVCD and manually set the bitrate. The only problem is the conversion time, which (like he said) is a couple of hours per movie...
