what would cause slowdown in video

edited October 2003 in Hardware
I recently encountered a proplem where any movie that I would try to play on the computer would go at low FPS making the frames choppy while the sound was fine. I think that I have the problem narrowed down to either the video card or the RAM but im not sure which since i cant swap either of the parts out. Does anyone have an idea either way of what the problem could be. Any help would be appreciated.

is it just during movies or do computer games slow down as well? and are these downloaded movies or through a dvd player.

because it could be a software problem too. something in windows might have gotten borked.

You could try diffrent codecs or video driver. To rule out ram you could run diagnostic programs like Docmem or memtest.

Staker, try turning down your screen resolution and see if that helps. If so, you need more horse power.
