I'm no Linux god, but I'd assume you'd log in as administrator?

I assume you setup a normal user and password?

I may have this wrong but, to log in as admin you would type username as "root" and your admin password you set.

To log in as a normal user, type in username and password you set up during the install.

Sorry if I read this wrong.

SuperNova, during the installation of RedHat you are prompted to input an username and password. That is what it wants you to type in when RedHat boots up. You also have to enter a root password during the installation. You can always log in with that as well. usr:root, pass: rootpass.

oh and redhat has this thing about user names being capitalized so try it not capitalized.

Durring the Installation of RH9 you are not prompted to give a username. At the screen i think your at log in as root. and then for password which you did enter for root pw. Then you can create your own account from there.

Ive got a question about which you distro you like best, and why...for linux ive been with RH for a while but i was wondering if you felt there was a better distro.

i tend to like the new mandrake the most, just because of the sheer amount of stuff that comes packaged with it. I'm currently trying out RH 9 and i think its ok but it seems to be lacking something that i just can't place my finger on right now. but different distros are good for different things ofcourse, like i've got this completely toned down version of , i think it is, mandrake. no gui's, just networking tools. it all fits on one of those usb keydrives too. its perfect for detecting networking problems on a computer.

slackware isn't bad either. i didn't get to play with it much because it was on my friends laptop, but its was still worth a look at.

so far my favorite though is mandrake, it comes set up fairly nicely and isn't really a hassle to learn. And the packages in it contain a lot of objects. The multimedia programs are a little better than some of the ones that came packaged in my version of RH, imo and there is definitely more games :) i got addicted to tux racing for a while, it was sad. but anyways. I found it quite odd that redhat didnt have as many programs when all packages are installed but maybe i missed something in the installation.
