Dual booting RH9 and WinXP

I run RH9 and WinXP on 2 seporate HDD's and to switch from on OS to the other I just switch hard drives via EIDE. Well, I'm getting tired of having to do that and the only reason I did it in the first place was because RH screewed up my NTFS partition.

I guess all I would need to do is maybe change the boot.ini file in windows to give the option of booting the \etc\lilo.conf file in lunix???

This is the only way I can think of so if U know, please tell me
Thx in advanced...

that isn't gonna work. if you have the redhat cd's, boot off the main one. it'll detect your redhat installation and will also detect you dont have a boot loader installed. follow the instructions, install grub. problem solved

Yes GRUB.....ahh the sweet sound of a good prog. I am running winXP and RH9 and some form of mandrake...but what i would do if i were you is get a copy of partition magic 8...make a partiotin for linux on it then run the setup of linux then u can dual boot between the two. That way Grub wont even boot your OS but you can do much much more:) I hope I have helped a bit.

Well U see I have two 40gig HDD's that are veterans (as I like to call them) of my old EIDE RAID0 project from my last board. Can't run a IDE Raid on my NF7-s since it don't support IDE raid, so I decided: why not give linux his very own disk instead of being bundled with his enemy. :D

WinXP is my primary OS so what I am wanting to do is set the 2 os's to boot independetly. What I mean is for example: WinXP screews up so I reformat the drive and install a fresh copy. In doing so; it doesn't not interfere with linux booting the next time I do so, or vise versa. Something like the boot.ini idea I suggested would work great for me because all I would have to do is keep a copy of that file on disk incase of this happening. Can grub be setup to do this?
All I would like is for windows to boot as default and for linux to boot if I choose it to.

Do you understand what I'm trying to say?
    thx in advance...

you're going to run into problems if you have to format and reinstall windows. it'll cause some bootloader problems mainly. Atleast it did for me when I had Lilo installed.

When your installing linux RH9 at the bot loader screen you can choose the default OS you would like to boot it will show you all OS's your have on your HDD and you can easily choose between them. The power of GRUB:P
