Black & White on Win XP Pro

My son plays Black & White on our WinXP Pro - which has been working well until now. It HAS been a while since he played it, but it DID work before.

Now, when you launch it, you get the B&W logo, then a box STARTS to open, closes, then that's it. No more. :(

Tried using Setup to run basic settings.

We have uninstalled, deleted everything, reinstalled - no good.

Updated video drivers, no help. Put back in OLD drivers that used to work fine - also no good. Set Geforce 4 to default settings as well.

Other games like Giants and Wolf ET seem to work fine.

This is NOT a rip off disk - strictly legit.

Patches? This game is really buggy and very tempramental, as I'm sure you've found out.

Backup your saved games/creatures and reinstall and patch to the latest version.

Restore your saved games and try again.

To play it you just need to open the shortcut and go to the compatability tab and set it to Windows 98. Works for most old games.

Not for me though. Been there, tried that. (head down on keyboard)
Thanks anyway though - and for information, that install of XP has gone to electronic heaven.

Don't know if you've solved your problem yet, but i had the same problem.
I found that it was a security update that was stoppingmy game from working...

I've had what sounds like the same problem with the game, Temple of Elemental Evil.

Eventually I discovered it was due to ReForce. If you've not heard of it, its an application that forces XP to use the optimum refresh rates for your monitor.

Any way, ToEE will not accept a refresh rate above 100Hz (eventhoygh may monitor and graphics card will).

If you have a similar app running it may be the same thing.
