What Size Power-Supply

edited October 2003 in Hardware
Well this previous summer I built my own PC for the first time, and for the most part it runs fine. Hers the specs as closely as I remember them: AMD 3000+ processor, 1.5 gigs of ram, 200 gig harddrive, DVD drive, CDRW drive, floppy drive, ATI Radeon 9700Pro graphics card, Soyo Kt-400 Dragon Ultra Platmun Edtion motherboard, and a 420Watt off brand Power Supply, or at least I think it's 420 Watts.
Anyways, like I said before for normal stuff like running word or something it works fine, However that is not what it was made for, it's kind amade for gaming, its not the best setup possible but it should run most games easily. My problem is that when I am playing games it'll run them fine for a while, half hour to and hour, and then BEEEEEEP the computer just turns off. I thought maybe I had my bios set wrong and the computer was turning off at 55 degrees instead of 75 which is what its set at but its not. I have looked at the tempurature when this happends and its normally around 48-52 degrees celsius depending on how long it lasted before the computer died. Which is what makes me think that its not the tempurature and possibly the power supply. Iono and suggestions or coments are gladly appreaciated, I am going to try and find the exact power supply but I know for sure its not and Antec and I believe its between400-450 Watts.

Ok the power supply is and Energy Gold Plated Dual fan 420Watt Power Supply
And incase you need to know I have 3 fans and then the powersupply but I already told you the temp so I dont think that should matter. Oh, and I'm running Windows XP Pro.

Even if it's a 420w psu, you prolly have weak rails. Not necessarily a temp problem.

Yeah thats kinda what I was thinking. So think I hsould probably go for a better psu like a 500W Antec?

a 500W Antec would do the job. My 400W Antec is handling almost as many components, so the 500W should suffice.

You may be able to find a 500W TTI /cheaper PSU instead of the $100 Antec. Check pricewatch.com and see what's available...

yeah I'll definately check for the best price, but I probably wont be getting a new PSU for about a month or so might even get another fan or two and maybe some cool lights to make my case look cooler.
