I wanted to take a screen shot of a particular scene from a DVD. I was wondering if this is first possible, and second what program or command would allow me to do this.

well, if you have a dvd player in your computer, you can just load it up with your application of choice (wmp9 would be easiest) and then hit print screen (might be called print scrn) button. it is located above the insert key at kind of the upper mid right section of the keyboard. it should be in teh same alignment as the left arrow key, but at the opposite end (the top). this will copy a screenshot to your clipboard and then you can open up paint or any other program and hit control + v and it will paste it into a new image. if you need any more help, holler . . .

I've tried doing just as drowd did and the screenshot showed everything except the movie. It replaced the movie with a blank screen.

I would also like to know a way of doing this too...

oh thats right, i forgot about that. hmmm, i think i remember that there is a button in powerdvd that lets you capture a screenshot. i bet there is something like that in most of the others (cept wmp9). i imagine you just gotta root around in your software to find it . . .

Try opening the DVD and an instance of some other movie. If the overlay is in use, Windows should allow you to snap a picture of the one that is not using it.

If not, PowerDVD has a screenshot function.

The best solution is to disable hardware acceleration in the application that is playing the video, or disable hardware acceleration system wide.
