what's my processor???

edited October 2003 in Hardware
Ok, I've got an extra system sitting around and I am trying to get it set up (again) for a friend of mine...

that said, it is a KT7A-RAID board, that I had way back when, I bought a new processor for it about a year ago, and have just now gotten around to putting in a new floppy to flash the BIOS with something that recognizes the higher t-birds (yeah, I know this is not exactly state of the art...) anyways, I want to say that I bought a 1.4 t-bird for this thing, but really can't remember. The BIOS indicates its an 850, is this a default? I plugged in sandra, and it reports the following:

Model: AMD Athlon(tm) processor
speed: 850Mhz
Model Number: 850 (estimated)
Performance Rating: PR1131 (estimated)
Type: Standard
Multiplier: 8.5x
Generation: 7th(7x86)
Model Information: Athlon M4 (Thunderbird) 650 - 1.4G 1.7-1.8v
Revision: 4 / 2 (0)
Stepping Mask: A4.A8

anybody have any ideas?

Well, looks like a default 850 mhz... so I think that's it. It won't go much past 1GHZ, it's too old a stepping.

Just for yucks, what is the FSB set at in the bios? What multi are you setting it at or is it set to "auto"? It seems to me, when I was hacking around with my old KT7A boards, that you had to manually go in and set the correct parameters for the chip to be correctly id'd and therefore run properly. If my memory is wrong, flame away, but that's what I recall.

    S!

    And Welcome to Icrontic!

If the default 8.5 multi is being correctly detected (which it usually is), then the default for a 8.5x133mhz chip would make it a 1130mhz processor, which didn't exist. Must be an early 8.5x100 tbird athlon.

I'll have to check to see what the settings are when I get home tomorrow, I believe I just hit the "optimized defaults" to start with... (its been so long since I played around in the BIOS of a machine, that I am really kinda starting from scratch here) I am however pretty sure that I ordered (and payed for) a 1.4 (still can't find the paper from the order) it would be a real bummer if it was only an 850...

thanks for the replies and the welcome, I actually used to be a registered user way back when, but my old login doesn't seem to work so, I got a new one :D
