S.M.A.R.T. Hard Drive setting....?

Lo everyone, I have had this "SMART" setting in my BIOS for years now and know it has somethin to do with harddrives, but what exactly does it do and is it worth enabling as pretty much every new HDD ive looked at supports it.

    SMART tells the computer when the drive is experiencing problems and when the drive is giving errors, it also reports back things like spin-up times, fault tollerance and temperatures, but you need some SMART software running to actually read the info.
