What is your new build routine?

I just built my new system (new specs at bottom.) It's still at stock speed. I am now installing all my programs after a fresh re-format. What I plan to do tonight is let my computer run a CPU torture test for a few hours to get the top heavy load temp under normal conditions, then leaving it running overnight with a medium load on it to burn it in and make sure everything is good.

Tomorrow I'll start fiddling around with the clock speeds and see how high I can go, and figure out my sweet spot.

What do all of you do when you build a new system? How long do you let it run before OCing it, etc...? Other than things that involve nudity and cooking oil, what other rituals do you perform? ;)

I normally let it Fold for 24hours to make sure it has a decent burn-in period and to determine stock temps.
Then I OC the hell out of it. :D

You have the right idea. Let it run at least 8hrs. either folding or prime 95 torture test and 3DMark01 continuous loop simultaneously.

I've only built one PC because I'm a poor student that has to save up for college, but when I built this one, I installed windows 2k to use as my new OS (was using win98 on the old clunker) then I transfered my partition from the old computer over to my new drive and UD was one of the first things I put on. :D I was suprised at how I was able to crunch more then one WU per week compared to the P3 crappy computer downstairs. I still crunch on it, but it's certainly not what's keeping me on the first page *cough* (I did not say how many teams per page in this case)

But I was not prepared for this speed, as I did not gather WUs with the other PC to keep crunching some. I had to wait a few weeks to get internet in my room since we had to get a jack installed, and I was too chicken to do it myself and be responsible for any damage done to the wall. :D There was still lot of damage done because we both had trouble finding our drilled holes (I knew we should of got drop ceiling downstairs) but at least it was not my fault. :D

I install all my apps, then make an image with norton ghost and THEN maybe overclock. :p
