This an OK rig?

I've decided to upgrade around christmas, and thus have started planning while I've got nothing better to do :D . It's been a while since I last dabbled with any hardware, so I'm pretty much green again.

My plan is to use some components from my existing computer in my new rig, and use the old one as a fileserver, maybe installing linux on it (I've been wanting to try out Gentoo lately). I was thinking of going for dual CPU's. I don't play much games, I rather tend to use a _lot_ of applications at the same time, and also I'm sick of having my computer hang every time someone on the LAN copies something.

So, anyways... After some initial advice from a friend this is what I'm thinking of:

MSI K7D Master-L (Socket A, Dual, ATA-100, 266MHz FSB)
2x AMD Athlon MP2200+ 1.8GHz 266MHz bus
2x GlacialTech Igloo Silent Breeze 462 II XP3000+
Crucial PC2100 DDR-DIMM 512MB CL2.5 Registered

Still undecided for case and PSU.

Any advice for or against would be much appreciated :)

No real advice, what you have is fine (get at least a decent, non-generic 400W PSU in a dual AMD rig).

What I'm wondering is when the next stage of dual chipsets for AMD processors is set to be released... 266mhz bus is becoming 'passe'.

Ah yes, I was told preferrably a 450W PSU.

About the next stage, isn't that already here..? Opteron. A bit ... steep for me. What I've listed is already a bit more than I had hoped for, but I think it's worth it. My current rig is a 1.13Ghz Athlon with 512MB SDRAM, and it's working out ok for me. Part of the reason I'm upgrading is to have two computers.

Also winter is coming soon, so it's either get an oven, or a new rig. Guess what I'm aiming for :D

Yes/no, opteron is more of a "leap", but yes they would be the next "officially support" 333mhz bus processors... I did forget that "official" thing.

I think of everything in terms of overclocking even though the manufactures don't. :p

BTW -- if you do get the dualie, it will be an oven.. both problems solved ;).

great choice of motherboard, its rock solid.
460 watt should be plenty in your case.

get a nice big case with case fans, this mutha gets really hot.

    ahem.. check teh sig
