I was wondering, is there any way of enabling support for mp3pro on any of the windows media player by a third part plug in, as I searched on the MS knowledgebase and found nothing relating to mp3pro.

Everything WMP related works on Codecs. To play OGG you need an OGG codec. To play WMA you need a WMA codec. To play DivX you need a DivX codec, etc etc.

All you need to do is find an MP3 Pro codec and put it in you Windows\System32 folder (that is if it isn't self installing anyway).

Well the problem is that WMP sees the mp3pro file as a normal mp3 so it wont go looking for a mp3pro codec. At the moment I have mp3pro codec for Winamp. Any ideas on where I could find such a codec for WMP?

You will have to Google hard for it, as I couldn't find one, but I know there is one as I had one.

Thanks. Been looking on google and read that there's no codec available for WMP as MS dont want to affect popularity of their own WMA/WMV format. And that maybe there will be one released sometime soon by Thompson in future. Oh well the search continues....

You need to use a third party MP3 Pro player, as you learned all current MP3 players see it as a standard MP3 (and play back the file as a 1/2 bitrate mp3).
