fastest CPU for KX7333R ??
Hello,
I've been out of the performance loop for a while. I've got a KX7333R and an XP2100 cpu with 512mb PC3500. I'm interested in a small performance upgrade to tide me over until the prices on the newer stuff comes out.
I know I can't run native 400mhz FSB, but what is the fastest 333mhz FSB Athlon CPU that I can fit in my board?? Will my board read the 'Barton' cores correctly?? Any help would be appreciated.
On a side note, since I have the 400mhz memory, what would be a good mobo/cpu combo to use with my PC3500 memory IF I would decide to buy another board. I prefer Abit mobo's by the way. Thanks.

The early models had problems with Tbreds & Bartons but the later revisions could run them just fine.
Nothing really special, but I bought an XP2800+, it was mis marked as a thoroughbred with 256K. I wanted a Barton, but thought the Tbred might work better with my KX7. I picked up a Volcano 11 HSF to run with it.
Of course my KX7 didn't autodetect, so with some manual fiddling I ended up stuck with a12.5 mult x 166 = Barton core at 2.08 ghz right?? I'm currently running 2.25 ghz with 180 mhz bus, stock voltage, full mem timings without a hitch. The old KX7 is showing it's age nicely.
By the way, the actual silicon is long and rectangular, unlike the squareish Palamino's and Tbred's. I'm pretty sure that is the extra 256K stuffed in there.
Finally, it might not mean anything, but Sandra says it has 512K on board L2 cache. So I'm pretty sure they goofed at the store and gave a Barton instead. Fine by me.
