OS installation troubles, need help.

edited November 2003 in Hardware
We're trying to install Millennium on an NEC Versa SX laptop (400 mHz) that previously had Windows 2000. I got rid of the NTFS partition with fdisk from a ME boot CD, recreated a new primary partition, formatted, and went through setup. It keeps on rebooting on the 'finding any Plug and Play' section. The hourglass/cursor will shake like stuff is happening, then stops, then it reboots. Any hints? Maybe a low level format of the drive first? Thanx.

I used to get that when installing win98 on machines. WinME is basically win98se with a new name and some new bits so its prolly the same thing. I used to get round it by removing all hardware other than what totally necessary, and then installing it later, which used to get me through it. This doesnt really help ya on a laptop where you cant remove hardware quite so easily, so sorry!

Actually it's that last driver install part it's hanging on. I couldn't get 98SE to install, and finally got a highly incomplete version of 98FE to go on. I'm upgrading to ME now, and seeing if that works.

Well that didn't work. Same hangup.

Then I took out the damn PC card, low level formatted and tried ME again, AND IT WORKED!!!
