All-in-One Mail Client

edited November 2003 in Science & Tech
I've just started university (chemistry) and we've got to work a lot with our university email address. My problem is that they don't let us use Outlook2k (under WinXP) for some reason, nobody has been able to tell me why, and the webinterface isn't particularly good. I know Outlook is not the safest of clients, but I really like it, especially the calendar/ notes function. I've never been able to use a pen and paper agenda, I absolutely hate my handwriting.
I've searched for an alternative and not found anything.
What do you use for your mails/ calendar? Can you recommend something, if possible freeware ;)

    yahoo? :p

Sorry dood, it probably means they're not allowing ANY pop3 account access (which is how oulook would connect), so you'll have to connect to their site (like you would yahoo) to get the emails. :(

Sorry matey, you're wrong I've tried with Outlook2k twice. It works with any thing else, they recommend Eudora or Mozilla. Mozilla works perfectly, it was an assingment we had to do this afternoon.
I may be studying chemistry but I know my way round with PCs

I use outlook 2k so not much help. For mail programs though Pegasus is very cool I use it's partner Mercury mail for a simple mail server very cool. But it won't help you for your calender and note taking.

so it IS a pop-3 account? try accessing it using outlook 2k and tell it its an imap server, see what happens

I don't have to use IMAP to get the mails, it works via POP3 just as wel as through IMAP. I just can't send anything through Outlook2k.

I would like to dump Outlook Express but I wish to know which of the following I should consider for multiple accounts and good anti spam configuration:

    Pegasus
    Incredimail
    Eudora
    The Bat
    Mozilla

Hope someone out there has some good opinions on this:)

Personally I find Pegasus works great. Very customizable and easy to set up.
