beep codes

edited November 2003 in Hardware
Hi,

My PC intermittantly fails to start. It gives no beep. I looked up the codes for amibios; it says 1 beep - All is OK. 0 beeps- power supply or motherboard failure. The fans spin and the lights on the cd drives flash and the processor heatsink gets warm so I assume power is flowing. The only other option is motheboard failure. Has anyone any experience of this type of problem and remedies?

I would try a different power supply if you can. It failing to start should indicate that you have a power supply or memory problem. I had a stick of memory that, when in any machine, would prevent it from POSTing even though fans spin up etc.

If you have more than one stick of ram, pull one out, and then he other, to see if anything changes.

    Good luck :)

Hmm...based on my experience, I'd put all my money on bad CPU.
