The only way to hook up a printer directly to the network is if it supported it directly (eg - higher-end HP printers w/ JetDirect) OR if you bought a router with built-in print server functionality... that would be the much cheaper alternative.
i think the easiest route is to just hook the printer up to the computer via parallel or usb and then allow the other computers on the network just use the printer through printer sharing. i dont think there is really going to be anyway to do it the way you are wanting to . . .
