Ok i have tried doing some reading on this but i cant make head or tail of what i am reading.

What i am wanting is i just bought a new lap and what to network it to my desk and Inet

Background:

Router: Dlink DI604

I got my Desk and Xbox hoocked to the rounter.

Now what do i need?

I keep reading about wirelss routers but i have a router so do i need another to link my lap to it?

If someone knows a place where i can figure all this stuff out let me know...thx

    Oh yea,

Now will this let me talk to my desktop from my bed room?

To answer your question purely simple, yes it will let you talk to you desktop from your bedroom, and there's nothing like surfing the net while laying in bed on a Sunday morning ;)

On a side note IMO, if you want to go wireless with your notebook, I would get an 802.11g access point (with a corresponding wireless PC card). 802.11g has a speed of 54mbps. Once you go to it you'll never go back :)

The other and cheaper 802.11b (11mbps) is fine for web-surfing and some gaming, but if you do heavy transffering I wouldn't reccomend it.

Ok....but to answer my question am i right in all i need are those 2 things?

Also do you have to buy the same ones...

Like you can get and AP cheap and AC but not the same brand. THey will work as long as they are both 11g right?

Yes those are the only 2 things you need and yes you can buy different brands.

I reccomend LinkSys products btw. I've had great experiences with them. I've had bad experiences with D-Link unfortunately ;(
