This is the path the data travels
aDSL modem : the modem part
computer or router (with all those 4 ports )
aDSL router : the modem part then to the router part ( which is NAT which is also the "firewall")
to :
1) computer or ( computers if the aDSL router have a like 5 ports where it acts like a switch or hub )
2) a router
to computers (if you set the aDSL router to bridge mode which means ur asking the aDSL router to act as a modem )
Read that a couple of times and if still cant get it.. try again.
Examples :
1) aDSL modem
a computer
2) aDSL modem
a switch or hub with 4 ports
computer(s) ( no protection )
3) aDSL modem
a router (which doesnt have a normal phone jack ) with NAT and 4 ports
computer(s)
4) aDSL router
switch with 4 ports
computers
5) aDSL router (bridge mode)
router with 4 ports and NAT
computers
aDSL router in bridge mode = aDSL modem
aDSL router in non-bridge mode = aDSL modem with a router built in either with 4 ports or without 4 ports
Cisco network run the internet. If you want the best you get a cisco. Other then that I would say linksys routers but i had one and a few complant about then going bad or degradeing about abuse in use such as 8TB of data passing thur then over 8 or so month but for 50 buck or less their still the best that why cisco bought them out i allso heat talks that cisco planing to buy d-link

There are ADSL routers out to buy and also ADSL modem/routers.
IF I get just a router , will i need an ADSL modem to plug into the router?
Or should I just buy a modem/router in one?
