i am trying to remember, but i think its maxtor. they have this little jumper on the back. if i recall, its black, and basically what it does, is it makes it register as a 33 gig drive or something like that. it confused me too when i got mine (more than a year ago) and finally i just saw it in the manual. hope that helps (and that your problem is as simple as that) . . .

Or if your unlucky you might have a 30gb hard drive with the wrong sticker on :)

I've seen Deathstars with that 30gig clip option, this could be a jumper problem.. Usually is with hard drives :P

Right, that's why I'm trying to find out what this dude's HD is..... IBM/Hitachi drives have a setting called "32gb Clip" which limits the HD for older BIOS' and motherboards....

I'm thinking either the 32gb clip is enabled or he got ripped off and was sold a "120gb" which is actually a "30gb" drive....

Ok then He is fuzzed!!! read the drive label and see what it says. They might have pulled the wrong one. What is the mobo? and what is the drive? as prime said it could have the clip enabled

It could also be an old MOBO that is only registering the drive as 30gig....MOBO's have limits to on what drive sizes they will detect. He may have to use the drive software (if it came with any) to allow access to the larger drive size. Or flash/drivers for his mobo if that's an option.
