Once you start an install of XP (say on a separate HDD) and you decide to stop after the format...

The damn thing remembered what I was doing after I shut it down, and now wont boot off of the master HDD.

Every time I try to boot to my old XP install, it demands the installation CD to complete the install that I stopped.

I dont wan't XP installed on that slave drive, but somethin has been done to the boot record. How do I get it to boot from the old drive again?????

When you install XP, it will install the boot sector on the drive it see's as drive C:. This inturn points to the drive to which XP is installed on. This is why people run into problems when they try to fool it by switching drives around. Most common error is "NTLDR not found".

What you might try doing if'n you ain't fobar your original install, is unplug the second drive - boot off the cd and "Repair" the boot sector of the original drive.

as it stands, I let it finish, then it gave me a boot option for which install I wanted. I just edited boot.ini to hide the new install. Then formatted the new drive again from My Computer.

    ...whew!
