could be your ISP's DNS server is messed up or something, but if your pinging by hostname then it means all is fine.
Reminds me of my schools unmaintained novell network. It still does not support IPV6 sites and we get a DNS error. Maybe it's an issue like that, does it only do it to certain sites?
Do you have a setting set in your tcp/ip protocols for youer network or broadband settings that is specifiy a DNS somewhere? If so get rid of it and make sure everything is set to dhcp.
Sounds like same problem i started having. computer will dial up, and establish connection, but will not recieve information. ie web page says: dns error.... other computer with same settings works fine! thank you for any input....,,,,ken....
Run ipconfig and see if you are being assigned a Connection specific DNS suffix. Inot then go to your TCP/IP settings for your local area connection and specify the dns suffix for your isp. If your using a router in addition to your dsl you may need to specify the dns suffix @ the router because it is providing dhcp.
My DSL will log on and even ping sites, but every time I try to open a website I get a DNS error.
I am Alltel dsl.
