Sharing a PST File

edited November 2003 in Science & Tech
The Situation:

My boss has a wireless laptop and desktop at his house. His laptop outlook PST file is the one on the desktop which all fine and well, however both machines cant have outlook open.

Is there a way to share the PST file?

doubt it. i mean try to put in a shared folder, but i'd say he can't do it. that's what exchange servers are for.

No. It locks it to open it as its a live data file much, much like having two people working on the same spreadsheet or word file.

Out of curiosity why is he needing to have it open on both machines at the same time?

After much seraching I found a programme called Public Outlook, which basically shares the PST file via a server machine and others have clients.

This worked a treat of course due to the way Outlook works we had to bodge a few settings :)

The reason why I was after this is my boss is normally at his house with large garden etc so he doesnt want to have to find his laptop before he can use outlook on his desktop

Very cool. Guess that shows where theres a will theres a way to do it without having to pay M$. Now that you mention it though I think I have actually heard of that program from another friend of mine but he said he had endless trouble with it and came to the conclusion that it doesn't really work. I may have to check this out for myself now.
