a real brainteaser. bet you're as stumped as i am
About a year and a half ago I built my computer, and just now it's starting to go a little mad. About a week ago, every couple hours, my moniter would start blinking on and off. Also, strange yellow and turquoise lines would appear on the screen. Sometimes the computer won't even turn on, and sometimes the moniter doesn't get a signal. I took it apart and cleaned it (thinking the dust from my room was the culprit which was making the whole deal go crazy) and it didn't help. I've plugged the computer into various moniters, plugged my moniter into various computers, but i keep getting the same odd results. Sometimes it works, sometimes I get annoying lines and colors on the screen, sometimes it won't turn on, and sometimes my moniter blinks on and off, and sometimes it works like a charm for about half an hour. The only reason I could think of for it doing this is the video card (Chaintech Geforce4 Ti4200). Any more ideas? Because I'm lost. This is quite the challenge. Real respect for anyone who can help me out.
Avery.

Do you have a spare vid card on-hand to pin-point it exactly to the gfx card btw?
Ok if its narrowed to your comp, Have you added any more things to it, like a cdrom or more ram or anything else, because it then brings me to my next question, How big is you power supply? Sounds to me it could be your not getting enough power. Does the comp ever randomly restart? Are there any other problems. If so It probably is you power supply.
If you think it is disconnect some none essential things, like if u have 2 cdroms unplug one or an case fan. Also did you overclock anything.
If it is the monitor it could be the monitor is just getting old or was cheap. Try barrowing another monitor and use that for awile.
Also it could be ur Geforce in witch it is defective or getting bad(I think it is unlikely) also did you clean the comp or monitor of any dust. If you did clean the comp or will make sure you clean the power supply.
Also if it keep this up and it is the Power supply STOP USING THE COMPUTER UNLESS YOU TAKE SOME USAGE OFF OF IT! If you dont you could end up overloading it and will take out everything. It happened to me, lost my cpu, mobo, powersupply(ofcourse) The Cdroms, and the HDs.
