First let me ask this...I ordered my wireless router/access point and wireless card for the LT. Should i wait till those get in before proceeding or can i go ahead and get the network ready.
The LT has a built in Lan so thought maybe while i wait i should go ahead and get the DT and LT talking.
What do you think?
If go ahead and play w/ it then what do i do? I just had the LT hooked up to lan that i had run to my xbox and all went well, I surfed the net but didnt see my DT though. I am sure that is its just stupidity here of not knowing what im doing but can someone halp me out her.
This all depends on if i should go ahead and set it up before i get my Wireless stuff in.
TIA

Just to clarify, think versello meant "laptop will automatically..."
As a laptop user myself, and having done this for the first 2 days I had my laptop, I can atest to this being true. Wireless is really no different to use and configure than standard cat5 networking.
DT - XPpro
Kinda green here though so lets go a little slow....where do i go to start to disect the prob.
Oops yeah good catch there After 8 hours of programming straight it can do that sorta thing to ya ;d
Contrary to what Stoopid said, they don't actually have to be the in same workgroup (altho it's generally better for organization). If you haven't changed anything when you received your LT and DT, most likely it'll be placed in the same workgroup (named "workgroup", amazingly enough).
When it comes to finding other Windows machines on a peer-to-peer network, 90% of the time it won't even show other machines.
You can manually connect to another computer via its UNC.
example:
On your LT, open up My Computer or My Network Places or whatever that has an address bar (ala Location).
In the address bar type \\insert_your_desktops_computer_name_here
You should see your desktops shared folders listed afterwards.
Full Computer Name: home
Workgroup: WORKGROUP
LOL
simple huh....
I have to be discreate about all this because this LT is Christmas present for wife. I will check after she goes to bed...thx
Will let u know
XP has some easy tutorials and i think i got it....XP though wanted me to use some disk to run network setup on my LT but 2000 didnt like or xp didnt like 200 so i had to run it from W2k and looks like all is good.
I C my DT now but i cant access the HD's so i did a little more reading and it said that i had to turn on the sharing for that drive....now there were all kinds of warnings about doing this but isnt what i want to do?
I am going to turnit on for both HD's and "my documents for my DT...going to do the same for my LT visa versa...right?
I can see everything that is possible from my DT on my LT.
PROBLEM:
When i try to c my LT from my DT.....It asked me for Username adn PW....it pops up in this little box w/ keys and labeled "Connect to Mobile"
What is this? Y am i getting that? How do i get rid of it?
TIA
I can access my DT thru my LT...but my DT cant access my LT...When i click on workgroups on DT the LT is there but when i click on the LT it asks for a username and PW...
The DT is XpPRO...the LT is W2k
Got the wireless stuff in but going to let her open them for xmas...thx for all yahs help
