router ip problem

edited December 2003 in Hardware
I have a cable modem going into a router which then goes into the two computers that we have set up. The problem is that we both have the same IP when it connects so in games (counterstrike) we cant both join the same server. WE want to be able to play at the same time on the same server. how can we do this?

It shouldn't matter because you will both be using different ports. Do you two have the same cd key?

What kind of router do you have?

i had that problem with RVS.
i had to go into the ini file and change the port number used on one of the games.
    no problem after that

If you're at all interested in networking, read up on NAT... which is how your router divides your one IP address into different addresses. The funny thing about it is it violates all of the networking design principles...
