dvd img files . . .

ok, so my uncle ripped a dvd image from a dvd he had made of my nephew playing in the snow. anyway, the file extension is *.img
now, i am fairly new to the whole dvd burning process and even though i have had my burner for several monthes, i havent really learned how to work it fully yet. in any event, nero doesnt seem to recognize *.img files when i try to load an image file, and i also found it interesting the daemon tools ALSO does not recognize the *.img file types; HOWEVER, if i choose "All File Types" and select the *.img file i can get daemon tools to force load it and windows and dvd playing software recognize it as a dvd.
in addition, one i was able to force daemon tools to load it, i tried doing a drive to drive copy, but i got errors, but i imagine that has something to do with the source drive being a stealthed drive.
anyway, so that my problem. what reads *.img natively?
TIA

I use dvd decrypter's built-in writing ability to burn img because I had the same issue trying to write img files with nero. It only seems to write 1x even if I set it to 2x, but it does burn and does a fine job (no errors).
It's also really handy for making images of discs that aren't copy protected. For copy protected dvd's i extract the files from the disc with DVD Decryptor.
There is also related information on the Nero site http://www.nero.com/us/631931396850966.html#4
It does not specifically mention the .img extension, but a couple of others.
