SMC Routers?
Hey guys,
I was looking for a new router and was thinking of purchasing a SMC SMC7004ABR Barricade. I heard that SMC has excellent support and products. I just was wondering what you guys think of SMC and what experiences you have had with them.

Personally I've generally had good results with D-link, Linksys, 3com and Cisco of course.
The firmware is by no means designed for a power user. The virtual server (port forwarding) DMZ and other options are lacking and do not provide the functionality I would like. For instance, you cannot forward a range of ports - 1 network ip, 1 port, no good. On the upside however, the router is relatively cheap and does a good job for those who want to plug and play, share their Internet connection, files, etc. and be done with it.
If you want more options and a more 'power user' centric device, I would suggest looking into DLink (cheaper than the competition and loaded with features) or Linksys. If you want a simple plug it in and go router grab the 7004ABR, you wont be disapointed.
PS. - I haven't dealt with their tech support personally but I have heard good things as well
Own it.
Love it.
End of story.
