SP/DIF clarification

On the back on my dvd drive there is an analog and digital (SP/DIF) port that goes to the soundcard. I have an audigy 2can I connect the card and dvd drive using a digital cord without digital SP/DIF speakers ? The speakers are logitech z640 5.1.

I am guessing that the digital cord that goes from the dvd drive to the card is unrelated to wether or not have digital speakers.

Yes it's unrelated it's dependant on the soundcard more often and what type of connecter it's using.

The connectors on the back of the DVD-Drive are irrelivant, so ignore them.

All you need to do is connect a Coax or Optical out on the Audigy 2 to the Optical or Coax in of the Logitechs and you are set. Just make sure you set your DVD playing software to S/PDIF Passthrough.
