Hey Guys,
A few questions about Remote Desktop on WinXP. I have my main PC as a server for my lappy via a wireless network. I have just setup Remote desktop and am connecting to my servers desktop from the lappy. My questions:

Does having Remote desktop on my server make me more vulnerable to hackers n other scum on the net? I am running firewalls and so on...

Is there a better / more safe and free remote desktop proggy that I could look into?

Cheers ladies.

It does make you more vulnerable to hackers and general scum. However that being said it depends on the strength of your firewall how strong your password is and whether or not you are creating a reason for hackers to go sniffing for you. In normal use it's very safe and you have little to worry about.

There are better options like TightVNC that allows you to specify what ports are being used for the connection and has some other security features built into it. Plus you could up the paranoia level further and only allow a VNC connection through an established ssh connection or through VPN for an extra level of protection but that requires a lot more work and know how. But it is about as secure as you can get.

Its all about the password.. Choose something that nobody can guess or bruteforce and you should be set.

    Cheers guys.
Im not especially paranoid about hacking tbh. I havent been hit before (-touches wood-), and there is no real reason someone would want to hit me. Thanks to NTL my net connex is so bad that they wouldnt want to hack me neway, they would get bored waiting!!!
