VON & D-Link 800AP Repeater?

I am trying to connect to my work email via the VPN client service and a D-Link 800AP+ repeater. Seems I get "peer terminated" error when I attempt to login.

I have a D-Link 514 router, D-Link 800AP+ setup as a repeater and a DWL-G650 laptop card.

I have no trouble loggin in using a straight Cat 5 cable to the 514 router or via wireless from the G650 to the 514.

The only time I cannot gain access via VPN is when I rty to connect wireless via the 800AP+ repeater.

Any ideas?

Same issue I experienced with my wireless network -- when I got too far away from the base I'd lose connectivity easier if I had the IEEE 802.1x encryption enabled. Once disabled I'd stay connected fine at a low signal strength. The encryption requires zero packet loss, aparently there is some packet loss when your signal strngth dips below a certain level.

Thanks. Maybe my question was unclear or I'm dense undestanding your response...

My repeater (800AP+) is 15 feet from me. My base (514) is 60 feet from me. I can VPN connect when linked to my base, but NOT when linked to the repeater. The signal strength and quality to the repeater is great. The signal strength and quality to the base is marginal.

So logically I would think the connection to the repeater would be no problemo to connect to VPN. NOT!

Is this what I explained in the first go 'round?

Also, will a conneciotn link be possible disabling WEP from the G650 card to the 800AP+ repeater and keep WEP from the repeater to the base?

    Thanks!!

If you can configure the repeater indepently then maybe your idea would work. But I'm not saying to open your connection up to the world, just remove the highest 128 bit encryption. Have a key assigned or manually configure the router to only accept connections from your computer's name... just don't use the highest encryption.

When you say you connect directly to the base (without the repeater) why use the repeater?

Thanks. I am using 64 bit WEP vs. 128.

The repeater is being used for a couple of dead spots down stairs since the base is upstairs. Moving 3-5 feet downstairs can make the signal from the base go from strong to marginal. With the repeater it's always strong. Make sense?

    Yup :)

Try turning off encryption, see if the issue goes away.
