Hey, I am just wondering what is the best way to go for a dual processor system?
Hi, just wondering what processor is best right now and in short term future about dual processor systems, I think AMD has their 64 bit dual processors? Any way, I am just wondering what exactly a system like this costs compared to a single processor system and what parts are gonna be cheaper ( like I think ram speed), I checked around for this, but it seemed to lack some performance parts and was a LOT more expensive. How much would a good mobo and stuff be and do they have ones with the extra "necessaties" like 6 pci slots, fast ddr(2) ram support, etc.
This is just something I would like to learn more about, but I wouldn't actually build a new system for about 2 years, but I WOULD want my next one a dually, unless of course there are tripply ones. It seems a little harder and time consuming to study on internet because these are not widespread or marketed to the personal user, hey another question, what exact performance +'s do you get from one of these systems, and do you get and performance drops in any form in the end?

If you need to multitask, then dualies can be of great help (encode on one proc while gaming on the other).
Another dilemma (in the past at least) were the lack of chipset advances for dual motherboards. Many were stuck on a PC133 or DDR266 chipset design, which choked bandwidth (gaming suffered the most).
My advice if you go this route would be to run linux on it as it will reap the biggest reward. In general use graphic apps such as Photoshop, Cad and 3D rendering software will reap the biggest reward from dual processers. Mpeg conversion will also generally see again. But asside from that you won't notice it. Accept as a drain in your bank account.
Wow, very well said.
this was my dual 2600s OCed.
when ur fooling around with videos, this is definitly what you need.
but lemme tell ya, even though this rig was armed with a radeon9700pro, it sucked at gaming
