Question...

edited December 2003 in Hardware
I'm in the market for a DVD player and have a JVC XV-N40BK Progressive Scan in mind...however it refers to it as a Single player. Does that mean it does not play dual sided disks or do I even need consider that? Be easy on me!!! LOL!!

Um..."it refers to it as a Single player" means it only plays 1 disk at a time, lol

How's that for being easy? ;)

Oh btw, DVD's are not double sided.

Some DVD's can be double sided. Usually movies will include a full-screen on one side and a widescreen on the other. Makes no difference in terms of whether or not a DVD player can play it - you just flip it over (the DVD disc...not the player... heh heh).

I'm pretty sure they stopped using the dual sided discs a few years ago. Instead they opt for having 2 discs or just sell it in one format or the other. Discs became so cheap to produce and the dual-layer technology increased the storage ability such that it didn't make sense to try and improve the dual sided DVD medium from the olden days (1999 :p ).

IE -- dvds with 2 sides were manufactured before 2001.

Hmmm, that's a first. I've never seen a double sided DVD disk with those options.

I have a Sopranos boxed set and one of the discs is double sided. 2 episodes on each side. The other discs are normal though, 3 episodes each.

    That's a truly bizarre.

FYI -- I also know the top dvd disc manufacturers even stopped making the double sided discs.

Thank god they stopped making the double sided DVD's. The first DVD I bought was Starship Troopers, which had 1/2 the movie on one side and the other half on the other. Its soo annoying.. I still have it, dam thing!!

I've got a few DVD's that are double sided but usually it's a widescreen on one side and full screen on the other. Can't remember all of them but Last Man Standing is like that for sure.
