SiS Launches Second RDRAM Chipset: The R659

edited November 2003 in Science & Tech
Silicon Integrated Systems (SiS) yesterday announced the immediate availability of its second Rambus DRAM-based chipset, the R659.

The chipset supports PC1200 direct RDRAM and delivers memory bandwidth of 9.6GB/sec for systems using four channels of 1200MHz RDRAM memory. The R659 will be paired with SiS’s SiS964 south bridge chip to support eight USB 2.0 ports and the Serial ATA architecture.

The company expects monthly shipments of the R659 will reach 100,000 units in 2004.

SiS launched its first RDRAM-based product, the R658, in July 2002.

wasnt rdram sued by sumthing or other for sum reason? i believe thrax mentioned it once on another thread...
also, rdram needs two channels in order to perform at the advertised speeds....is this similiar to dual ddr tech?

RAMBUS got sued for offering their RDRAM as a free memory technology to JEDEC, then trying to claim they had patents on it once the JEDEC was begninning to accept it, thusly attempting to fraudulently take money from the JEDEC body and all companies that interface with it.

The FTC was all over their ass.
