Windows 2K machine does not recognize me/98 machine, but sees it...

My windows 2000 machine does not recognize my me computer, as well as 98 when it was 98 a while ago. It sees it though it just can't access it, some error. Also, the ME and when it was 98 can see it and almost access it, but it asks for a password and I set NO password, nor can find the option for this. Any way to solve this? By the way, I tried admin and blank passwords and such to try and see if they worked, no luck, I am set to log in as administrator all the time and the password for that is "", or blank.

Please help.

Just enable the guest account on 2k. Less hassle.

how/where would I do that?, and will this allow the computers to talk to each other, or just see each other and ignore each other like they are now? and, is that just the same as making it sign on as another user instead of the administrator? in which case might stop me from installing stuff and working on things?

Go to START -> ADMINISTRATIVE TEWLS -> COMPUTAR MANAGEMANT.

Now kilck on LOCAL USARS AND GROOPS -> USARS -> and you will see "Guest" with an X label (meaning it's disabled, currently). Open that up and you will see the option to enable.

Once you enable the guest account you won't be asked any password on your 9x/ME machines.

    ON A SIDE NOTE:

You mention you're logging in as administrator? Is this under your 9x/ME machines? Because the username on your 9x/ME machine *must* be valid and would best have the same password on your 2k machine. This would be an alternative to enabling the guest account I mentioned previously, but requires more work.

you need to have a password for 2k to log into it from through another machine. You can't do it with just a blank password.

I am pretty sure it is "administrator" on the me/98 machine, I always change the network setting to windows family login so that I press the power button on the computer and don't have to press or type anything else to fully start computer, all the added stuff really annoys me. I'll get back to you on that guest account thing.

...and, I only put a user when it forces me to, like on windows xp, but 2k doesn't force me, but I think I had to put one in on the me and 98 machine as well, but I don't actually sign in with it, or have a password ("blank").

Unless the login name & pass you're automatically logging in as under 9x corresponds to a valid account in windows 2000, windows 9x/ME will try to authenticate as Guest as a fall-back. Just to clarify that up if there were any doubts...

You don't log in 2k as Guest. You just enable it, and if it says it's disabled then you did something wrong.
