Please critique new system setup

edited February 2004 in Hardware
I am building a new computer for some friends of mine, but have been out of the loop for a while. I have done some research and come up with the following parts list. Please offer any suggestions you have or things that I should be aware of. Also, I might downgrade some of the components in this list if it proves to be over budget.

All components will be obtained from newegg except for the case. For some reason newegg does not stock lian-li cases anymore.

here is the wishlist

The case I am considering is the Lian-li pc6089a which i will obtain from mwave.

All parts not listed are going to be reused from a previous computer.

Thanks for your input.

switch the motherboard out for an Nforce2 powered board like the Abit NF7-S or the Asus equivalent and switch that nasty GeForce out for a Radeon 9600XT or 9800Pro/XT then you'll be even better for not a whole lot more (if any)

Oops.. didn't notice the 64 bit athlon... I'd still stick w/ Nforce boards... I'm not sure if they support 64-bit athlons yet but I like them over VIA. Also good choice on the ram but add another stick of 512. 1 GIG is really nice for video editing/games etc.

You do realize that Athlon 64s are 754 pin as opposed to Athlon XP 462, right?
    or the Asus equivalent
Only if you like flaky BIOSes and gaudy features that add to the price, but not performance.

You spend a whole lot of money there and you dont even get a DVD burner? They are pretty cheap now. you can get a Lite on DVD R/-RW/+RW burner (and burns CD R/RW's) for $104, from newegg.
