Two mice or not two mice

The wife decided to get a small two button optical mouse so it would be easier for the kids to use (small mouse for small hands).

I NEED my three button mouse for fraggin. I just can't handle it for most games. :( One mouse is of the PS2 flavor, and the other is of the USB flavor. I have both hooked up, the USB takes over and disables the PS2 with no errors, soooo I set it up for two hardware profiles-
1. the default (AKA the USB works and the PS2 doesn't).
2. the other (I have the USB mouse disabled and the PS2 mouse works). Problem is I have to reboot to switch profiles.

Now on to the question...... Can I have two mice working at the same time? If so, how?

My friend has a similar issue, he is left handed and needs the mouse on the left and the rest of his family needs it on the right. Same problem.

Hmmm, as far as i know, nope. I've seen ppl with 2 mice: 1 for the kids games and the other for the adult gaming. They have to unplug one to get the other to work. Guess that's pretty much all you can do.

My laptop touchpad works while I have a mouse plugged in, must be because they are both listed as pointing devices in the hardware manager, and may be competing for the same IRQ/hardware resources (??). I don't think the touchpad is seen as a pointing device which is why it works in my case.

I've had 2 USB mice connected and both worked at the same time. Its funny to use one on the sly while someone else is using the computer.

Gets em confused quite quickly ;)

Ditto. Just a standard PS/2 mouse and a Logitech MX700.

I just have them both plugged in. They work with no problems. One to the PS/2, the other to USB. I use the PS/2 on the times i forget to charge my MX700 even after it tells me to. :o

I also saw someone who had such configuration with a serial mouse and a ps/2 and they both worked. It probably depends on the mouse and the drivers, if they allow that or not.
