Camcorder to PC

A friend has a Camcorder that's a few years old, records onto a mini VHS tape, and has no USB or Firewire output, just the composite audio & video.

How do you get your video footage onto a PC, so you can edit etc.

Any ideas guys?

Dazzle makes a "cheaper" unit ($100 retail) that should do the trick...

There's lots of older capture cards floating around. He needs a composite (RCA) video in. He doesn't even necessarily need it to import the sound as the sonud card could do that part, and most capture software allow you to manually select the sound source (which would be the 'line-in' in that scenerio).

Also check out the VideoOH! PCI... you should be able to find is around $130. It imports Video and Audio, converts realtime to MPEG1 (VCD) and MPEG2 (DVD) and includes audio imputs which should clear up any audio/video sync problems. The downside is that the software package isn't all that good, it uses sonic MyDVD for editing I think. Ohh by the way it is made by adaptec. Also take a look at Pinnicale and Dazzle stuff (both made by pinnacle) but as I far as I've seen they all need USB2.0 connections for their external boxes that convert to MPEG2. If you only want to burn to VCD or just save it on the hard drive a cheaper unit that converts all three (i'd stick with a unit that does audio too) they get cheaper and only need USB1.1
