Laptop Parts

I need to replace my laptop (HP) fan, and I don't exactly care to send it in for warrenty which could take weeks. So I was curious if anyone knows of a place to buy these kind of parts.

I've called all the local service places; but they simply refuse to sell the part, and tell me I'd need to have it serviced by them.

Heh, I work at an HP service center. Don't listen to their BS.

Try oiling your fan first. It's helped me. Otherwise see if HP has a spare parts number (like Dell has)

Spare parts from the dealer will cost you a fortune. I priced up an old P2 laptop once and it totalled to like $4k or something. Way more than a new one. The CPU alone cost $1k+.

Look around and see if you can find something of the same size. Splice the wires if you have to.

"Look around and see if you can find something of the same size. Splice the wires if you have to."

That's originally what I planned on doing, however the fan is strange, it is built into some plastic tunnel type structure, which copper pipes run through. So it's not really able to be swapped with any other kind of fan.

I check HP parts and found it for 36 dollars. I think I'll take your advice and trying oiling it first. If that doesn't work, I suppose I'll just let the fan annoy me.

    Thanks for your replies
