New build won't boot.
Ok guys. I need some suggestions. This new build won't boot. Fans spin, ram led lights up, no beeps, no video. Can't access bios screen.
I'm building this rig with a GA 7N400 L mobo that's a refurb from NE.
It's got a clock set that I haven't seen before, in the form of switches on the mobo
I need to know how I should have those switches set to run a 1.2(?) gig tbird, for now.
Ram is two sticks of pc2100 ddr known good ram. Vid card is 8X nvidia ti 4200, and it's running fine on my other tower as I post.
I can try switching ram to the second set of slots and see if that makes a difference. I've tried unplugging all IDE cables and power cables from hardware.
Suggestions on what to try next? and setting for those clock set switches needed please.

I'm going to try a pci vid card.
*man i hate when that happened*
are you sure your cmos jumper isn't set to clear?
that'd do exactly what you're describing
otherwise your chip isn't posting. if you know its good, then GL witht hose jumpers!
I tried an AGP and a PCI vid card that I just pulled out of existing towers. They are known good.
I'm not seeing cmos jumper at all.
I took the battery out and let it reset.
I think either I have the switches wrong, or the mobo is just no good.
I think I hate Giga Byte.
Anyways sounds like to me that the person who returned the motherboard to newegg flashed the bios incorrectly. From whats been said anyway. Refurbished items from newegg, are not really refurbished or tested. They should be called repackaged.
Get a new mobo sir. Good luck.
Welcome to the club. And remember; "Friends don't let friends buy Gigabyte."
did you try taking it out of the case and setting it up with 1 stick ram in the first bank and vid card only?
if you've haven't given up yet let us know k?
Anyway, back it goes. Done deal now.
I'm now looking for my next new AMD mobo, and will consider suggestions, as long as it's not a Giga Byte.
Gravite2090,
You better duck because she won't like being called sir.
I saw that. It isn't the first time I've been taken as male (in the forum) and probably won't be the last.
It's ok.
Ok, Asus or Abit? I'm leaning towards Asus.
I'll be getting a different cpu to go with it.
abit kt7a-r w/ tbird 1.33 512mb corsair xms i think
Problem is that I have a tbird now and I'm looking to get a more up to date board and cpu. Better than what I currently have.
And something that uses ddr ram.
You asked a dangerous question on a predominantly Abit forum. Heck, we even got some of the resident Asus folks to switch lately. I say get what I got as well as 1/2 this board, Abit NF7-S baby. (As mtgoat does his best Austin Powers impression)
Seriously, even if you don't overclock you still can't go wrong. If you don't care about sound quality or RAID then get the plain jane NF7. I swore off overclocking for a while and after I got this board I just couldn't resist the calling and it is now easier than ever to do well.
For rock-solid workstations that aren't overclocked: Asus.
For overclocking: Abit.
I hope this one works.
Would that 2400XP you bought happen to be a Thorton?
This one should be more top of the line.
NE doesn't list any Thorton's.
I wanted at least 2 gigs, and that one had a decent price.
The only thing I'd recommend on that MSI is replacing the NB cooling with something like this: http://www.svc.com/zanoco.html
It should be here by Wed.
I'm still tempted to give that GigaByte one more try. It can't do more than give me a headache, right?
I'd bet $10 that it isn't a board short, however.
