in putting together a sort of frankenstein computer, i installed an old memorex CRW-1622 into the P3 WinXP system.

i am unable to use this CD-RW to burn CD's, but it will read the CD-ROM and audio CD's. when I attempt to burn w/ Nero, i get an error message stating that the drive is in use... even if it's the first thing that I do upon boot-up.

I don't have any of the original software for the Memorex drive. Does anyone know of software and drivers to make this CD-RW work properly? From what I recall, it was never a very good burner to begin with when i used it several years ago on a Win98 system... but it DID work last I used it.

thanks!

Check your cable and try installing the drivers:

    Might just work.

i went to memorex.com's site and d/l a flash update for the drive's bios. (only software i could find for this drive... is there a "generic" driver that should work?)

when i run the flash from the floppy, during the install process, i receive an error MSCDEX.EXE not found

i d/l Oak Technologies mscdex.exe , but don't know what to do w/ it... or how to edit system files / registry to make it work...

am i on the right track?
