XP Update Website
For some reason when I try and update Windows XP from the website it fails.
The download happens OK but the patches fail to install - an error message about their lack of XP certification pops up.
The website then presumes they've installed fine until the next visit.
Anyone else experienced this?
Anyone have a suggested solution?
Cheer!

are you using internet explorer? the latest version of internet explorer?
i use opera as a web browser, but i dont think it will work with it. although, come to think of it, i dont think i have ever tried. so who knows.
oh, the other thing. well, i am not saying you are, i am sure its another problem, but if you are using what is known as the "devils own" cd key for your copy of windows xp, updates and SP1 will not start. just thought i would toss that out there, i am sure you can read up a whole bunch of stuff about it at microsofts website.
good luck
Also you need to be using IE to get the updates not another browser.
However, I am using internet explorer the latest version and a genuine (i.e. legal) copy of windows xp pro.
The update site was working. It's only since the last two critical updates were posted that I've had a problem.
You could try installing each update individually and see if it's 1 or the other that is giving you the grief.
Also each patch can be downloaded individually off of microsofts tech site to your hdd then installed from there. The trick is finding them on the tech site that's the pain.
And I have administrator priviledges on the PC.

On my PC "Cryptographic Services" had been disabled which is why Windows Update wasn't working!
What a relief . . .
I truly am glad that Microsofts error message are so straight forward and clear.
Instead of saying your 'Cryptographic Services' are dissabled instead it's very helpfull by telly you that M$ software hasn't passed their own assurance program.
This inturn forces you to go looking for an answer to this problem. Which then makes you and everyone else who you've graced with their problem all much more computer savey.
Ahhh yes Microsoft thank you for your help. Fuckers.
