The Ultimate scsi raid shootout

So I bit the bullet and bought a Compaq 5302 yesterday. It needs more cache (it takes up to 256mb) but its gonna be fun testing it against teh Elite and Enterprise 1600's I have now.

I have 8 state of the art u320 scsi drives that hit 65 to 70,000+ as a single drive as well as two dual AMD MPX chipset motherboards, a dual p3 with 64/66 slots and a dual p4 xeon rig with intel chipset and pci-x so the benchs should be exhaustive and the winner crowned as the true scsi raid champion of da world ! LMAO

I have felt in the past that the Compaq 5300 series was possibly the fastest 64 bit scsi raid you could buy if money was no object, with the LSI/AMI's a close second place.

T1rhino has some experiance with the compaqs at his place of employment and will probably chime in on their merrits.

Should be one h*ll of a shootout guys!

I need to sit my butt down and write a formal article comparing the merits of both with full benchmarks etc..

I can't wait.

You just got to put it in a 64bit slot and you will do fine. These sorta suck in a 32 bit slot though.

You have a dual AMD now right?

    nope, not yet.. :(

I also need drives.. I'm slowly but surely building my collection of 15KRPM drives for the day when I can build a decent-sized RAID 10....

I really prefer the fast 10k's as they are quiet and much less heat. You will never feel the differance between a fast 10k and a fast 15k. My new u320 10k's hit like 71 to 73,000 a pop on atto. The 15k's hit 73 to 75,000 and are noiserier and hotter,

but if you have ONE drive and a 64/66 slot you need to put that puppy to work.
