Belkin router spamming

edited November 2003 in Science & Tech
Belkin, the network hardware manufacturer, has decided to use its own products to advertise. It has been reported that their wireless routers have a tendency every few hours, to redirect themselves to the company's advertised web page.

[blockquote]Of course, I have this strange notion that routers should pass data unmolested by marketeers!
[/blockquote]
[blockquote]As if you didn't find pop-ups or e-mail spamming annoying enough, then you will be enraged by the new methods in use by no other than the networking company Belkin. It turns out that every so often, their router intercepts a HTTP request, and redirects the user to a Belkin page advertising their latest products.[/blockquote]

thats sooo horrible...why in gawds name would they want to do that? I mean its quite obvious that the people LIKE theior products...using a popup add is redundant

I love Belkin UPS's, and have recommended them to clients and friends. But having read that, I will never recommend a Belkin router to anyone, until I hear that they have decided to cease and desist. I mean, spamming is fine for shareware and freebies, but if you pay for a product, then they should just bugger off and leave you alone.
