Feeze when installing windows98

edited February 2004 in Science & Tech
I have no idea whats wrong with my pc, When i try to install windows it freezes at various points of installation. If I do successfully install, when working within windows the system will freeze. I have reformatted my hard drive and am beginning to wonder if this is a result of a bad hard drive. Please help.

What are the specs of your computer and what are the temperatures of your CPU? My first bit of advice would be to make sure it isn't overheating.

it sounds weird, but make sure the disc is super clean... sometimes when there is a scratch or somthing windows coppys a file that is messed up and it will install everything wiht that bad file... sounds weird but it happed to me.. reinstalled 3 times, each time a differant resaults.. took it out once, cleaned it, slapped it in, and it acculy installed faster, and no more bugs

It could also be that your cd-rom drive is dirty. Try a lens cleaner in it, or if you have access a different cdrom.

Other things pull out everything card related accept the Video card. Some mobo's need drivers that are loaded after the windows install to work propperly with other devices such as sound and network cards.
