virus - IP pop-ups (messenger spam?) - and csrss.exe

please take a look at this solicitation that my friend recieved in a pop-up (messenger spam?)
the "direct IP advertisement" (as they call it) pop up window in their screen shot in the ad looks the same as the annoying pop-ups that happen every 5 mins or so on my friend's computer.
i did some cursory research about a process that seems to be taxing the CPU when the pop-ups occur ( csrss.exe and another w/ similar name ), and there seems to be a virus associated w/ this symptom as i read at symantics site (didn't write down the info, sorry..), so we ran AVG anti virus, but it didn't help... nothing was found. i understand that csrss.exe is a standard system file, but from what i read in the norton virus database, apparently there there is a virus which attaches to that program, ultimately causing the source of these pop-ups to be quite a resistant bugger... (ever hear of it?)

has anyone seen this before?
https://www.securesoft.org/popupblock/

any accounts of the legitimacy of this "securesoft" product? i wouldn't be surprised if they developed the virus just so they could sell a new product... who knows!

i appreciate any advice. thanks!!

Don't pay any of those fucking scumbag companies - they are the very perpetrators of this crap infectuous advertising.

right click "my computer" - click "manage" - go to services and disable "Messenger" service - problem solved.

That's exactly what that bullshit $30 software does.
