anyone know how to get around the
"Click OK to upgrade your DRM Components" prompt when Media Player 9 tries to play certain files?

actually, i haven't even clicked OK yet because i'm afraid of the personal info that may be sent...

anyone know if there's any reason NOT to click OK?

i appreciate any comments on this issue. thanks!

Well there is no way around it if you still want to use media player.

The only real way around it is to use some other program. Like winamp/itunes/jukebox for playing music. For movie players there is The Playa, Power DVD and lots of others.

friggen proprietary M$ bs. For those Media Player is the best. What is it that you are trying to playback that is giving you such grief?

impression i get is that the DRM is more for "protecting" whomever created the media file, so it can only be played on one computer? not sure how much that has to do w/ M$ money grubbing... but, i guess... hell, it's all a damn conspiracy!

anyway, just a few li'l movie clips that i d/l via bearshare. nothing important really. the media merely for personal entertainment.

There may be a way around it but generally M$ when it gets into DRM it's pretty hard to get around it. I think you may be stuck. As for worrying about your privacy I wouldn't. M$ isn't going to learn anything new from your system that they haven't already wanted to find out :)
