Hi,
Does anyone now how to allow a dos program to run in Win2K without it using 100% of the processor?
Reasonable spec pc, P3 2.0 256mb 30GB HD.
I'm sure that it was possible in NT4 but can,t find a way in 2K.
Thanx

That doesn't sound right... there's no reason a DOS app should use that much cpu resource from my understanding.

Depends on the program (though 100% seems high) some old or poorly written dos apps didn't understand that processors may get faster so they always ran at 100% of the processor speed. In utility type programs this wasn't a problem. But I remember back in the day you take a game like say Load Runner, or Barbarian that was designed to run on an XT at 50mhz and all of a sudden run it on a 286 with 100mhz and the game was so fast it couldn't be played.

I do remember there use to be apps out there that you would run to load the dos programs to trick them into thinking you have a slower CPU.

Incidentally that was the reason for a Turbo button on older pc's.

    Man I'm feeling old now.

OF course this may not be the reason for your problem at all and more of just a history lesson. It could be just a horribly written dos program and you shouldn't be using it anymore.
